Father's Day #30

Today we celebrated Father's Day by taking my dad out to breakfast and giving him a mp3 player. He really has no idea about mp3's or downloading music, but I think once he gets the hang of it, he's going to appreciate it. After all, this is the man responsible for my love of rock-n-roll.

This is the man who used to quiz me as I rode along side him in his car, listening to the classic rock station. "Who sings this one?" he would ask when a new song would come on. I distinctly remember him singing Werewolves of London and elongating the howls just to make me laugh.

The older I get, the more I realize just how much we have in common. In fact, just the other day my grandmother was scolding me for not keeping the windshield on my truck clean. "You're just like your father" she told me sternly. I didn't respond. I just nodded and smiled, because I knew she was right.

My dad has been a huge influence on me and he's the reason I'm where I am today. He's the person who put the food on the table when I was growing up. He busted his ass working long days and weekends so I could go to a more than average college that we could barely afford. He's a man of integrity and wisdom, and he always carries a nail clipper in his pocket :)

He loves fishing, but only plays catch and release. He's addicted to chess and could probably beat anyone that challenges him. He knows every cars make, model, and year just by looking at them. His favorite band is Yes.

We may have our differences of opinion when it comes to politics and social issues, but I love my dad a ton. I'm so thankful that I've been blessed to have such an amazing father and teacher.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY DAD!

Diamond Day

Friday is here and I'm looking forward to having a very productive and selfish weekend. I've got a mental to-do list that includes lots of yard work and home rennovations, but nothing is set in stone. I figure it'll all get done whenever I get around to it.

The one thing I've been dying to do for awhile now, is build myself a little hideaway under the pine tree in the back yard. It's absolutely perfect for it! Now that the weather is nice, I've been itchin' to sleep out under the stars, and what could be more perfect than sleeping in a cozy little pine hut?
